Enjoy a 15-minute ferry ride across the north channel of the Straits of Malacca to the Penang mainland. After a two-hour journey down the North South Expressway, you will reach Bukit Merah. Take a 10-minute boat ride to the Orang Utan Island which serves as a breeding sanctuary as well as a conservation, research and education centre to better understand this endangered species.

Afterwards, visit Taiping Lake Garden said to be Malaysia’s most beautiful lake garden. The tranquil, beautiful lake view and misty mountain scenery will provide a memorable experience. Delight in visiting the oldest zoo in the country where you can see many of Malaysia's native animals in a natural setting of streams, lakes and abundance of flora. Later, visit the oldest museum in Malaysia which was founded in 1883 by Sir Hugh Low, the then British Resident of Perak. On the return journey, cross the Penang Bridge linking the island to the mainland. At 13.5 kilometres, this is one of the longest bridges in the world.

  • Should the Bukit Merah Laketown Orang Utan Island is not operating, we will replace with a visit to the Bukit Merah Laketown Ecopark – a 3-acre eco-friendly sanctuary allowing visitors to experience close encounter with a variety of animal species in an environment as close to their natural habitat.
